The Česká hlava project supports scientific and technological education. The Česká hlava project supports scientific and technological education. Its objective is popularisation of science and increasing the social prestige of local technology and science employees as the main creators of the country's economic prosperity. Each year the culmination of the project is awarding the Česká hlava national prizes to top personalities from the technology and science areas. By official announcement of the most prestigious Czech prizes for scientists and technicians for 2007 the Česká hlava project on 12th April 2007 officially entered the 6th year of its existence. Unipetrol, who is a partner of the project since 2001, also had its place during the launch. Dana Dvořáková, corporate communication manager, took part in the event. Unipetrol gives its own prize as part of the project. The Patria prize will be awarded to the person whose extraordinary achievement in the area of basic or applied research or technological innovation had success abroad in the last few years. Also those who found positions abroad thanks to their expert of managerial qualities have a chance of obtaining this prize. With the Patria prize our company supports the project for the full length of its existence – i.e. six complete years. This way, with full awareness of the positive impact on prosperity of a Czech company and of success which science brings in the long term, Unipetrol supports directly the activities and development of Czech scientists. During the project inauguration the organisers also informed about the international conference "Science and the Future of Europe", to be held on 17th May in the Prague University of Economy. Among those to participate will be the Nobel Prize winners, sir Harold W. Kroto and Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, the Czech prime minister Mirek Topolánek and also the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of PKN Orlen, Piotr Kownacki. Among others to speak will be the European head of the Japanese Hitachi concern, Stephen Gomersall and several politicians, entrepreneurs and scientists from different European countries. This year again Česká hlava will organize the exhibition Science in the Streets in several Czech cities and participate in the European Commission "Researcher's Night" project, to be organised in entire Europe together in the last Friday of September. We believe that by supporting the Česká hlava project Unipetrol can help persuading local heads that research is profitable in the Czech Republic.
