Employees of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group took part again this autumn in the Volunteer Days organised by the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation. In the second wave of the 15th edition, more than sixty employees lent a hand, specifically at the Dolní Počernice Children’s Home and the Střimická výsypka Bird Park near Most. Since 2012, the Volunteer Days have been an integral part of community projects through which employees contribute to improving the environment in the regions where the Group operates.

Through this initiative, the ORLEN Unipetrol Group enables its employees to forge closer links with local communities and non-profit organisations. This spring, more than 140 employees helped out at eight locations across the Czech Republic. During the autumn part of the programme, employees focused on helping children and caring for nature.

Thanks to their willingness and dedication, tangible results are achieved that have a positive impact on local communities and the environment. This programme is proof that a responsible approach and concern for the wider community are now firmly established within our company,” says Lucie Pražáková, Director of the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation.

At the Dolní Počernice Children’s Home, staff mainly helped with tidying up the garden and outdoor grounds. They improved the pétanque court, tended to the greenery, cleared paths and pavements, and painted selected features of the grounds. The ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation also presented the children’s home with a symbolic cheque for 157,110 CZK. This sum was contributed by petrol station customers via loyalty points in the ORLEN app.

The second part of the aid was directed to the largest bird park at the Střimice spoil tip near Most, where employees, in collaboration with the Czech Ornithological Society, helped to remove narrow-leaved hawkweed. The work built on last year’s activities and contributed to the restoration of the natural environment and the promotion of biodiversity at this site.

Employees of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group thus concluded this year’s second wave of Volunteer Days at two sites. In total, more than 200 employees took part in the 15th edition of the programme, helping out at ten locations across the Czech Republic. The long-standing interest in such activities demonstrates that helping local communities and the natural environment is an important and meaningful part of corporate life for employees.
