The second October week-end marked the height of Pardubice horse racing season. After the flat race on Saturday, Sunday, 9 October, was devoted to hurdlers and 115th Velká Pardubická steeplechase.Duce wins the silver trophy
Gelding Duce ridden by James Crowley celebrated the victory in the 12th Paramo Prize - R.Davis Memorial steeplechase which took place within the 115th Velká Pardubická steeplechase. He repeated thus his victory in this race from 2003.
Six of eight horses which appeared at the start finished the race. Polish mare Krolowa Sniegu (Patejukova) belonging to the absolute elite in the flat race last year came second. This year she has been successfully running steeplechase. Six-year-old gelding Tycjan (jockey Hurt) came third. Last year, he won four times in Pardubice and having defeated Duce, he has won also this traditional race.
The Pardubice refinery first attached its name to the 4.400-metre classical steeplechase for four-year-old or older horses in 1993.
Maskul returns to the throne
Eleven-year-old stallion Maskul ridden by German Jockey Dirk Fuhrmann became the victor of the Velká Pardubická steeplechase after three years again. He managed the almost 7-km race with thirty fences in the shortest time in the history of 9:11,26.
Registana, the brightest steeplechase star of the last years, which, besides two victories in the Velká Pardubická steeplechase, also won the June eligibility race Paramo Grand Prix - Memoriál mjr. Miloše Svobody four times, didn´t manage the second fence and that was the end of the great story. The clear favorite of the race dropped out and gave the chance to its competitors. In the end, generally experienced horses celebrated success in this race marked by a high number of falls, although not at the much feared Taxis ditch. Multiple victor of important German Listed races, Decent Fellow (jockey J.Bartoš) came second right following Maskul. Laneret (jockey P.Tůma) was the third to run through the finish line.
The jubilee 115th Velká Pardubická steeplechase was watched also by Vaclav Klaus. He was thus the first president to attend the race of the season.
