This year, the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation organized another instalment of the “Donate Fuel for Life” campaign, which encourages blood donation among employees of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. Dozens of employees from all of the Group’s locations participated in this year’s campaign. They helped during a period when there is traditionally a shortage of blood donors. Four hundred millilitres of blood, which is a single donation, can save up to three lives.
Donating blood is simple and quick; the donation itself takes only a few minutes. Every year during the summer months, healthcare facilities face a decline in the number of donors. Yet each donor is exceptionally valuable to hospitals. “Donating blood is one of the simplest yet most powerful expressions of solidarity. It only takes a few minutes, and we can have a significant impact on someone else's life. It’s all the more valuable that our employees came to donate blood precisely at a time when supplies are typically at their lowest,” says Lucie Pražáková, director of the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation, adding: “We greatly appreciate everyone who took part in the campaign and helped donate real fuel for life. This tradition began ten years ago.” As a token of appreciation, employees received a snack package from Stop Cafe.
Employees of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group from all locations participated in the blood drives, in cooperation with local healthcare facilities. The blood drives took place in Prague, Brno, Most, Mělník, and Pardubice. The campaign thus reaffirmed that through joint efforts, we can help where it is needed most. Donating blood is one of the most effective ways people can help. It takes just a few minutes, which can play a crucial role in saving a human life. It is precisely because of its simplicity and real impact on people’s lives that the “Donate Fuel” initiative is among the foundation’s key activities.
The ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation has long been dedicated to supporting communities in the regions where the group operates. It focuses primarily on activities in the areas of education and the environment. It also organizes a number of volunteer and community activities. These include, for example, Volunteer Days, during which employees assist nonprofit organizations, schools, or municipalities, and the “Fulfilled Wishes” project, which provides concrete assistance to those who need it most.
ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation
The ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation launched its activities in 2017. Its primary mission is to support education and popularise science, primarily natural sciences and technical disciplines, as well as corporate social responsibility, emphasising local communities and the environment. The Foundation has long been engaged in supporting schools, teachers, and students with grant programmes. The educational project, ‚Plastík a jeho kouzelný kufřík‘, provides schoolchildren from the first to the fifth grade with an excursion into the world of chemistry through entertaining experiments. Educational support and the associated Foundation’s activities gave rise to many educational materials and outputs in the form of tutorials available at
www.nouonline.cz. Beginning in 2024, the Foundation is also committed to corporate social responsibility related to the environment, support of local communities, and volunteering. Such activities include championing volunteer and community projects, fundraising, fish releases into rivers, nesting of endangered peregrine falcons, and beekeeping. The Foundation cooperates with many non-profit organisations on a long-term basis but also reacts to current events in society and emergencies.
